Visa Debit Card

A Visa Debit card may be used for:

  • Purchases through EFTPOS (Electronic Funds Transfer at Point Of Sale) facilities within Australia, such as supermarkets, petrol stations, hotels and other outlets which display the EFTPOS logo
  • Withdrawing cash from ATMs within Australia and overseas that display the Visa/PLUS logo
  • Purchases from any merchant displaying the Visa logo, both in Australia and overseas
  • Bank@Post deposits and withdrawals at registered Australia Post outlets. (This option is not available for Business or monEsaver Internet Savings accounts)
  • Purchases and bill payments via the Internet*, mail or telephone
  • Cash advances at banks within Australia and overseas
  • Identification purposes at Branches
  • Transferring funds between accounts at rediATMs.
All new replacement and renewal Visa Debit cards we issue feature a secure embedded microchip to give you a higher level of confidence in the security of your transactions. The microchip is a smart chip, which appears as a gold or silver square embedded on the left hand side on the front of the cards. The chip stores your account details but unlike the magnetic stripe, the microchip is much harder to copy, which provides an unrivalled level of protection against counterfeiting, card skimming and other fraudulent use. With this new technology, instead of swiping your card, you may be asked to insert your card in EFTPOS terminals. The card will remain in the terminal throughout the transaction and confirms your identity and transaction authorisation by requesting your PIN. *Verified by Visa is a free service all Community CPS members are registered for which may request personal information from members to ensure the transaction is legitimate. Please click here for the full terms and conditions.

rediCARD

A rediCARD may be used for:

  • Withdrawing cash from ATMs within Australia and overseas that display the Visa/PLUS logo
  • Purchases at various EFTPOS facilities such as supermarkets, petrol stations, hotels and other outlets within Australia that display the EFTPOS logo
  • Identification purposes at Branches
  • Bank@Post deposits and withdrawals at registered Australia Post outlets. (This option is not available for Business or monEsaver Internet Savings accounts)
  • Transferring funds between accounts at Credit Union rediATMs.

DEPOSITS

You can make deposits:

  • Over the counter at any Branch via a teller
  • In our Secure Deposit Box - available at most Branches
  • By electronic direct credit, such as salary credit
  • Through Bank@Post, at registered Australia Post outlets (This option is not available for Business or monEsaver Internet Savings accounts).

Over the counter

Funds can be withdrawn over the counter in the form of cash or a Corporate Cheque. Cash withdrawals on up to two savings accounts can be made at Bank@Post outlets with your Visa Debit card or rediCARD and PIN (This option is not available for Business or monEsaver Internet Savings accounts). In addition, if you have a Visa Debit card attached to your account, you can use it to access funds overseas by completing a Visa Cash Advance at any bank

Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) withdrawals

One of the most convenient ways to access your money, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is through an ATM. If you have a Visa Debit card or rediCARD, you can withdraw cash from any ATM within Australia. Balance enquiries are also available.

rediATMs
We are part of the extensive rediATM network of ATMs. This means that every rediATM, whether it’s in a credit union branch, at a nab branch or in a street or shopping centre, is treated as one of our own ATMs. You can withdraw cash, check your balance or make transfers at any rediATM in Australia, without paying a direct charge fee as the transaction will be deducted from your monthly Fee Allowance.
With over 3,400 ATMs across Australia, the rediATM network is one of the largest ATM networks in the country making using rediATM convenient.

To find your nearest rediATM, visit www.rediatm.com.au, use our rediATM SMS Locator, or if you have an iPhone you can download our free rediATM Finder Application from iTunes.

Non rediATMs
If you use a non-rediATM to withdraw funds or make a balance enquiry you will incur a Direct Charge fee by the ATM owner. The amount of the fee differs for ATM to ATM but you will be told how much the fee is before you complete your transaction. The Direct Charge fee is charged to your account at the same time as the withdrawal is processed. If you request a receipt, your balance will be printed on the receipt after your transaction is complete.

If you don’t have a rediATM nearby, consider using your Visa Debit card or rediCARD to pay for goods and services and withdraw cash using EFTPOS instead of paying a Direct Charge fee at a non rediATM. Fees for EFTPOS are included in your monthly Fee Allowance.

Overseas ATMs
Travelling is easy with a card. You can withdraw cash at overseas ATMs that display theand   logos. We recommend you take a Visa Debit card so that you can take advantage of more locations and the added security chip cards offer. Some European countries for example no longer accept cards without chips.

Bank@Post

Available at over 3,000 Post Offices across Australia, Bank@Post allows you to make deposits and withdrawals using your Visa Debit Card or rediCARD and PIN*. We can link your membership so that you can withdraw and deposit over the counter at any registered Australia Post outlet.

*Bank@Post is not available for Business or monEsaver Internet Savings accounts or if the account is set up for two people to sign.

Visa Merchant Purchases

You can use your Visa Debit card to make purchases at any merchant worldwide which displays the Visa logo. The merchant will produce a docket of the transaction for you to sign which you will receive a copy of for your records.

Travelex

Travelex is the world’s largest foreign exchange specialist. Through Travelex, we can offer you a comprehensive range of products and services to take care of all your foreign exchange needs.

If You Are Going Overseas

It is recommended that you always take more than one payment mechanism – some local cash, a Cash Passport Card, and a credit or debit card. That way, if you have difficulty with any of your products (eg your credit card is not accepted, or the magnetic stripe gets damaged), you will have an alternative. Use a Cash Passport Card for your day-to-day expenses, and a credit or debit card for major purchases.

Cash Passport Card

The Cash Passport Card is a pre-paid, PIN-protected card that enables you to obtain local cash from over 1 million VISA ATM’s around the world. You can purchase the card in any amount from $250 to $25,000.

Cash Passport is ideal for all major tourist destinations, overseas and in Australia, where there is an ATM network.

Foreign Cash

In addition to your travellers cheques and/or Cash Passport Card, it is always advisable to carry some local cash to cover taxis, trips etc upon arrival overseas. Holiday Money regularly stocks over 35 foreign currencies.

If You Are Sending Money Overseas

Drafts are the cheapest form of sending money overseas, and can be sent by mail. The receiver generally has to pay the draft into an account, and it may take a few days to clear.

Telegraphic transfers are electronic funds transfers to financial institutions overseas.

We process all telegraphic transfers through Travelex the world’s largest foreign exchange specialist.

You can arrange a telegraphic transfer at your nearest Branch, by phoning the Member Contact Centre on 13 25 85 (+ 61 8 8205 8888 for overseas callers) with your Membership Number and telephone passcode or by sending us a secure email via Internet Banking.

For further information on telegraphic transfers, please visit our FAQs page.

If You Receive Money From Overseas

Subject to acceptability*, we can arrange through our alliance with Travelex, to convert Foreign Currency items into Australian Dollars. So, if you receive a Cheque from overseas, or return from a trip with unused Foreign Cash or Travellers Cheques, you can have them converted into Australian Dollars and have those funds deposited into your nominated account.
